TENLEY
I got left behind and forgotten by my family a long time ago. I had to fend for myself in the debris of our broken home. When I got my first taste of freedom, I went a little wild. I don’t see any reason to apologize for it.
Now I find myself in a little bit of a predicament. I got kicked out of college. I have no idea what I’m doing and no real prospects. It’s the only reason I take the nanny job dropped into my lap by my brother.
I should have asked more questions because I’m not prepared to meet Wyatt for the first time. He might be twice my age, but he makes me feel something real when I’ve been running and pretending for so long. He tries to hide how he reacts to me, but I can see it.
I’ve fallen for Wyatt and his little boy, but part of me is scared to trust. No one has wanted to keep me before, not even my family. What can I really offer other than unrequited dreams and a rebellious spirit that rides me hard?
WYATT
I’ve never claimed to be anything more than I am. There are a few things in this life I’m good at and value. My art is one of them. Being a tattoo artist has given me the life I never thought I’d have.
I have my Vibrant Ink family and a business I’m proud of. It’s enough. At least, I thought it was, but maybe I’ve only been fooling myself.
The world I’ve built gets thrown out the window when the ten-year-old son I never knew I had is left on my doorstep. When I need help I know right where to go. My son needs some supervision and I need some help. I wasn’t expecting Tenley, a woman who is way too young for me with a wild streak which needs to be tamed.
I can’t seem to resist her no matter how hard I try. I’m twice Tenley’s age, but she’s mine. I’m exactly the man she needs in her life. I’ll prove it to her and give her the stability she’s craving.
BRIDGER
The only family I’ve ever claimed as my own are the people I work with at Vibrant Ink, certainly not my parents who never cared about me. We’re more than a tattoo shop and a place to work. They give me a purpose and a place to call home. It’s all I need.
Meeting Avery changed everything. It was supposed to be one night, one night of fun and pleasure. I never wanted more than that with a woman and never considered forever or a family beyond Vibrant Ink. When she walks back into my life with two pink lines as proof that our night together has become much more, I don’t know what to do.
Avery gives me a purpose and teaches me how to love, even though it takes me a while to see what is right in front of me. Now I know that she’s meant to be mine and it’s just a bonus that she’s carrying my baby. Once I realize that she’s meant to be mine, nothing will stop me from giving her my heart and protecting hers with everything I am.
AVERY
My life has been predetermined for me by my parents, my father insisting that I follow in his footsteps and become a lawyer. I gave in, but then he made me work at his firm. Again, I gave in. Now he wants to marry me off to another partner’s son, and I don’t think I can give in this time.
Going out for a night of fun is the first thing I have done for me in such a long time. Meeting Bridger isn’t part of the plan, neither is spending the night with him. It’s just what I need in order to feel like I’m doing something for me while knowing it can’t be more than one night.
Seeing the two pink lines on the pregnancy test changes everything. My father says I’ve ruined everything, and suddenly I have nothing. I wasn’t planning on going to Bridger, but I don’t have a choice, and he deserves to know. The last thing I expect to do is build a family with him that mends the cracks in my heart and makes me believe in happily ever afters.

KNOX
Life is good. I love my work, and I love my family; all because of Vibrant Ink. Art gave me a purpose when nothing else made sense. When I was growing up, drawing quieted my mind and made me feel seen when others wrote me off. They thought all I was a big, dumb, clown; but they should see me now.
Not many people care about the storms I’ve weathered, and I can feel another one on the horizon. I didn’t know the first drops of rain would come in the form of a little boy with guilt and anger waging war inside of him. Art gives him an outlet, just like it did for me.
Helping Wilde find art leads me to his mother, Haven. And the maelstrom descends, battering me from all sides, but I know I can stand up to it. I won’t bow down under dark clouds or cower from the lightning and thunder. Because I know I’m stronger than the storm following them. They’re mine, and I’ll be there when the sun breaks through the clouds.
HAVEN
I’m in the eye of the storm and soaking up the momentary calm. It won’t last, but I can use this time to heal myself and my son while making plans for what happens when the lightning crashes again. I’ve been running for so long it feels unnatural to stand still and soak up the safety I’ve found. Maybe I’ve run far enough, but I doubt it.
When the shelter offers art classes for the kids, I figure it can’t hurt anything. Maybe it’ll help Wilde process the things he doesn’t understand and the trauma we endured. What I wasn’t expecting was Knox, a tattoo artist with an easy smile and a sense of humor that threatens to tear down my walls, to come into our lives and use paint and charcoal like stitches. If only he could be our shelter from the storm.
But I know better. When the past catches up to us—and it will—destruction will follow. Knox deserves more than that, and more than the darkness my secrets will force him to endure. Wilde and I have weathered the storm before, and we’ll get through. I can only hope our hearts will be intact by the end of it all to allow us to dance in the sunshine.
